We Didn't Just Make the Truck Body Lighter. We Rethought How It Should Be Built.
For generations, conventional truck bodies have largely relied on traditional steel fabrication – cutting and welding steel sections, heavy steel floor structures and plates, followed by surface preparation, priming and painting.
Every additional process means more material, more labour, more manufacturing time and more weight.
Why are we still building truck bodies this way?
At DROPTRUCK, we asked that question and engineered a different system. DROPTRUCK is an Australian manufacturer of patented lightweight commercial truck bodies, designed around precision-engineered aluminium extrusions and advanced lightweight composite panels.
The result is a truck body designed to be lighter, faster to manufacture, highly corrosion resistant and capable of carrying more useful payload.
Why Aluminium?
Proven Across the World's Transport Industries
Aluminium is one of the world's most important transportation materials. It is extensively used throughout commercial aviation, automotive manufacturing, rail and road transport because engineers value its combination of strength, low weight and corrosion resistance.
Modern aircraft, including the Airbus A380, make extensive use of aluminium alloys within their structures. Aluminium alloys are also widely used for automotive wheels and numerous structural and transportation applications. Millions of passengers place their trust in aluminium-intensive aircraft every day.
So when DROPTRUCK set out to rethink commercial truck-body construction, aluminium was the natural starting point.

At the heart of our patented body system is high-quality 6061-T5 aluminium extrusion. It provides an excellent combination of strength, low weight and corrosion resistance while eliminating many processes associated with conventional painted steel fabrication.

DROPTRUCK's aluminium extrusion system removes many of these manufacturing and finishing stages. That means fewer processes, less finishing material and significantly reduced production time. Most importantly, it removes unnecessary weight from the vehicle before it even starts work.
Less Weight. More Payload.
A commercial truck earns its living by carrying cargo – not carrying its own body. That philosophy has driven DROPTRUCK from the beginning.
Our patented aluminium extrusion technology allows our bodies to be manufactured substantially faster than conventional fabricated steel body construction, while dramatically reducing unnecessary structural weight.
For diesel vehicles, that can mean greater payload and efficiency. For electric trucks, reducing weight becomes even more important because payload and energy efficiency are critical to making zero-emission commercial vehicles practical.

Exclusive DROPTRUCK FRP Composite Panels
We didn't stop with the aluminium structure. DROPTRUCK has introduced a new-generation lightweight FRP panel system exclusive to DROPTRUCK, designed to reduce body weight even further.
Traditional composite truck panels commonly rely on bonded layers and adhesives. Our new-generation panels use a thermoplastic fibreglass skin with no glue, combined with a 15 mm polypropylene honeycomb core protected by woven fibreglass skin.
The result is approximately 30-40% less panel weight than traditional FRP panels, while providing the durability required for commercial transport.
- High-performance UV-resistant exterior coating – Long-lasting colour stability.
- Thermoplastic fibreglass construction – No conventional adhesive bonding system.
- 15 mm polypropylene honeycomb core – Exceptional strength-to-weight characteristics.

Australian Innovation Proven on the Road
DROPTRUCK isn't a concept or prototype business. We have manufactured more than 540 truck body systems, including approximately 150 bodies for electric commercial vehicles.
More than 57 lightweight bodies have been manufactured for vehicles deployed through an ARENA-supported electric truck program.
Our body systems have been developed for vehicles associated with major manufacturers and importers including Foton, LDV, JAC, Hino, Hyundai, Farizon, Weichai and Qingling.
Our work has also supported major Australian fleet applications including IKEA, ANC, Winning Group and Bunnings.

Built by Manufacturers
DROPTRUCK founder Steven Wayne brings decades of experience in manufacturing, engineering and product development.
Before founding DROPTRUCK, Steven established Mille Miglia Exhaust Systems, an Australian manufacturer of high-performance stainless-steel exhaust systems. The company operated for more than 20 years, grew to approximately 30 employees, and exported Australian-made products to international markets.
Mille Miglia also achieved an important milestone when it became the first Australian aftermarket exhaust company to receive written approval from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG in Germany for its exhaust system to be fitted to a new Porsche 911 without affecting the vehicle's factory warranty.
Today, DROPTRUCK is a multimillion-dollar Australian manufacturing business with an experienced in-house engineering and production team, including two full-time CAD specialists, a boilermaker, a toolmaker and a fitter & turner, supported by specialised manufacturing, tooling and assembly capability.

Australian Government Supported Innovation
DROPTRUCK's technology has received Australian Government recognition and support through the Entrepreneurs' Programme – Accelerating Commercialisation.
In 2020, DROPTRUCK PTY LTD was awarded $165,000 under Grant Agreement GA71320 by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. The grant supported technical certification, product trials with industry partners and the commercialisation of DROPTRUCK technology.
DROPTRUCK has also undertaken ongoing product development and innovation supported through the Australian Government's Research and Development Tax Incentive (R&DTI), reflecting the company's continuing investment in engineering, design, tooling and advanced lightweight manufacturing.
